FOR THE HONEYS VOL.46 | KUZCO

by Finesse Finesse

Kuzco (pronounced kuuz-co) is an Australian / Māori producer, DJ, and synth artist whose presence has been steadily shaping the contours of Naarm and Meanjin’s electronic underground. Years spent as a touring and studio musician have carved out a practice grounded in instinct, collaboration, and an intuitive understanding of rhythm.

Her work across projects like Harvey Sutherland, Middle Name Dance Band, and Gordon Koang speaks to a versatility that resists easy categorisation, moving fluidly between live instrumentation and club-focused energy.

There’s a certain tactility to the way Kuzco approaches music. On Vol.46 of For The Honeys, she leans into a more defined sonic language, drawing from '90s UK street soul, Detroit house, and UK club culture. Shaped in part during a writing period in London, the mix threads together European rhythmic and polyrhythmic influences with long-form techno and weightier dub elements. It also offers an early window into this next phase, with tracks like Bound To Be highlighting her sensibility as both a keys player and producer - expressive, layered, and quietly assured.
